Vice President, Catholic Kwandong University
Former President, Korean Society of Coastal and Ocean Engineers
Dear distinguished guests, researchers, and colleagues,
On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, it is my great honor and pleasure to welcome you to the International Conference on Asia and Pacific Coasts 2025 (APAC2025). This conference will be held from November 4 to 7, 2025, at the beautiful Paradise Hotel in Busan, Korea.
It has been 20 years since Korea last hosted the APAC conference on Jeju Island in 2006, and we are thrilled to once again invite you to our country. Busan, a city renowned for its vibrant culture, rich maritime heritage, and stunning coastline, provides the ideal setting for this significant gathering of coastal engineering professionals. Overlooking the world-famous and picturesque Haeundae Beach, this venue is sure to inspire meaningful discussions and foster invaluable connections.
Under the theme of "Smart and Resilient Coastal Engineering for Sustainable Futures," APAC2025 aims to explore innovative solutions for climate adaptation, coastal resilience, and sustainable development.
This conference serves as a unique platform for researchers across the Asia-Pacific region to share groundbreaking research, exchange ideas, and strengthen collaborations. We are confident that the insights and networks you develop here will not only shape the future of coastal engineering but also contribute to addressing the pressing global challenges of our time.
I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to all invited speakers, session organizers, and participants who have traveled from far and wide to join us. Your expertise and dedication are the cornerstone of APAC2025's success.
We also hope you take the opportunity to enjoy Busan’s vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and warm hospitality. May this conference be a meaningful and productive experience for everyone and let us work together to create an unforgettable event.
Once again, welcome to APAC2025. I look forward to an inspiring and fruitful event with all of you.
Sincerely,
President,
Korean Society of Coastal and Ocean Engineers
Dear Distinguished participants,
It is my great honor and pleasure to extend my warmest welcome you all to the International Conference on Asian and Pacific Coasts (APAC 2025), where coastal engineering researchers and professionals from across the Asia-Pacific region gather together.
Since its first conference in 2001, APAC has proudly continued its tradition every two years. This year, the event takes place in Busan, the maritime capital of Korea. It is especially meaningful that the Korean Society of Coastal and Ocean Engineers is hosting this conference, marking its return to Korea for the first time in 20 years since it was last held in Jeju in 2005.
Busan is widely recognized as the hub of maritime logistics in Northeast Asia and a city leading innovation in advanced port and coastal technologies. The conference venue, located in the beautiful Haeundae area, offers a unique opportunity to enjoy both academic exchange and moments of relaxation and inspiration.
This year’s conference will feature extensive discussions on a wide range of topics including coastal waves, the design and stability of coastal structures, coastal erosion and restoration, natural hazards management, and coastal management. We hope that coastal engineers and experts from across the Asia-Pacific region will share their latest research achievements and practical experiences, fostering vibrant collaboration and new partnerships.
Over the past several decades, Korea has achieved remarkable progress in port and coastal infrastructure development, smart marine technologies, and climate change response research. Through this conference, we look forward to sharing these experiences and envisioning together a sustainable and resilient future for our coasts.
I trust you will experience Busan’s warm hospitality and enjoy meaningful academic exchange and rewarding networking opportunities. May this conference become a new milestone in the advancement and cooperation of coastal engineering in the Asia-Pacific region.
Thank you.
